Oxygen Shoes was formed out of desperation.
47 years old, no job, two sons at school and a number of bad habits. My training as an accountant and a solicitor, were great freebies for my friends, but too out of date to provide the money needed. Having spent over 10 years working with my ex in the shoe business, it seemed worth the cost of a flight.
Let’s just say the first collection was not that good. However, it got me through the first summer and gave me time to study the internet and put together some ideas for the future. What you see now is ten years on and it is still hard to believe what has been achieved. It has been partly due to very hard work, but a big thanks to the retailers, who gave it a try and my two sons, who have shared their bedrooms with shoes for so long. My biggest thanks to my foreign agents, who put up with all the errors I make and look after me like one of the family and to “Tigger” and Don my sales agents in the UK. Both have shown unbelievable belief in the brand since it’s early days and they lift my spirits when things are on the rough side.
As for the product, we have tried to achieve something a little different. Quirky, yet simple designs using excellent quality leathers in a variety of colours. However, the key to our success is comfort of the product and the price and service we offer to our retail customers.
The biggest problem we have faced is “spreading the word”. Whilst the brand is well known in the South West of England, we have few retailers stocking it elsewhere. Cloning my agents is taking too long and I am not sure the world is ready for it, so until new agents can be found, I decided to launch the website. Hopefully Oxygen will become a national and maybe international brand as a result, but really as long as a few of you buy my shoes and like them, that’s all that matters.
We will try to offer as good a service as we can. Feel free to ask questions. We even answer the silly ones like “are you selling both shoes or just the half pair”
So I hope you enjoy the site. Final thanks to my son Alex who did most of the work on the website. Yes we do exploit child labour.
In March 2014, we sold the website to MV Footwear. Please be assured of their continued high quality standards.
